Data Backup and Recovery

Data is the most important aspect of your computer. Though computers are the most reliable storage medium, the risk of data loss always remains. Data loss may occur any time in any form. To prevent your data from loss, you need to backup it. A backup is the copy of data. This copy may include important files and databases. The backup is required to restore your data if any kind of data loss occurs due to any reason including human error, logical failure or hardware failure.
You can take a backup of your data in many types by using many methods. There are basically three types of backup:

  1. Full Backup- is the starting point for all other type of backups. It contains all the data in files and folders that are selected by you to be backed up. As full backup stores all the files and folders, regular full backup result in simpler and faster data restoration operations. But there are some drawbacks with full back that it requires more space to store the data and its backup speed is slow.
  2. Incremental Backup- takes the backup of everything that has change after the last full backup has taken. It backing up speed is faster and the storage space requirement is low. But there is also a drawback that is restoration speed is much slower.
  3. Differential Backup- is much like the incremental backup. It offers a middle ground by backing up all the files that have changed since the last full backup has taken. It restoration and backing up process is faster then incremental backup and it requires less storage space then full backup.


These are some general types that can be used to back up your data to overcome any of the serious conditions of data loss. You can take any of these types of backup to safeguard your data that is suitable for you. There are several methods that you can use to take the backup of your most precious and valuable data:

Internal Backup tools are available with the operating system that can be used to backup your most valuable data. These are inbuilt system utilities that can be used to take the backup of your data. There are several options available with these tools to schedule you backup like hourly, daily, weekly, monthly and yearly.

There are several other backup software are available that can be used to take a backup. You can install these software on your computer and can schedule them according to your need for taking the backup. These both tools store backed up data only on your computer hard drive.

  1. External Backup means taking the backup of your data on external or removable storage media like CD, DVD, USB and Tape drive. This is the most popular and safest method of data backup. This backup is taken manually by the user whenever he/she wants.
  2. Online Backup is the process of saving your important data over Internet. There are different web sites that provide the facility of storing your backup on them. You can store you data on these sites and can get it back whenever you require. There are less chances to misplacing backup media in this case.
These are the backup methods that can be used to backup your data for future security. You can select the type and method of backup that fulfill your needs and that is easy to use.

Though backup is the easiest way to keep your data safe, but troubles comes from every side. You may loss your backup also when it is not taken properly or the media used in backup is damaged, mostly in case when you have taken your backup on hard drive. It may also possible in rest two methods, External and Online Backup. It is very-very vivid situation for you and in this case you do not have any option to restore your data. In these critical situations, you need to recover your data and data recovery software can help you in this case.
